Founded in 1947 by the Dutch Norbetine Fr Werenfried Van Straaten. The charity helps the Church in need throughout the world relieving the suffering of oppressed and persecuted Christians.  ACN is involved in over 7000 projects in the church worldwide.  The only assets are the promises made to the poor and persecuted believers.  Can you help us to keep these promises?

ANNUNCIATION BEREAVEMENT GROUP

 
The support of the bereaved and grieving - both by prayers and in more practical ways - is a major need.  Different people have different needs at different times. The main aim of the group is to be available to provide support of whatever kind as and when required.  To provide an opportunity for anyone who is bereaved or grieving to meet and talk with others and receive support, there is a Drop-in-Coffee Morning on the second Wednesday of each month from 10.30am - 12 noon in the Parish Centre.
 

ASCENT MOVEMENT

 

This is a 'new' movement within the church, which exists for lay men and women in the 'second half of life'.  There are three elements - Spirituality, Friendship, and Mission.  Meeting usually the first Wednesday of the month at 1.45pm - 3.45pm at the Convent of Mercy, Highbury, 411, Sandygate Road, Sheffield S10 5UD

ASSOCIATION OF SEPARATED AND DIVORCED CATHOLICS

 
The Association is a registered charity, under the episcopal care and guidance of His Lordship, the Bishop of Salford. It is a lay organisation committed to co-operation with the Church. There are affiliated branches throughout the country, providing spiritual and practical support through self-help groups. The Association is open to all separated and divorced Catholics, regardless of their present circumstances, and aims to:-
1. Reassure the separated and divorced that they can build a new life as a purposeful, happy individual within the Church and society.
2. Communicate to the Church the special problems of separation and divorce, to bring about greater understanding, compassion, education and action.

CARMEL CARE CENTRE

 
Carmel provides supportive space for those having difficulty in coping with the pressures of life through stress, depression, anxiety, loneliness, problem drinking or whatever impairs mental and emotional health. Through a twelve step programme they can, individually and together, experience spiritual and emotional growth.

THE CATENIAN ASSOCIATION

 
Founded in 1908, this is an international Association of approximately 11,000 Catholic professional and business men, meeting in groups called Circles of which there are over 300 worldwide, mostly in the United Kingdom.  The name Catenian derives from the Latin for chain of which each circle can be seen as one link.  A meal or light refreshments follow circle meetings.  Those wishing to know about the Association will usually be invited to attend social functions of a nearby Circle for a few months.
The aims of the Association are:
To foster brotherly love among members.
To develop social bonds among members and their families.
To advance the interests of members and their dependants by individual or collective action.
To advance the interest of young Catholics and to assist them in the choice of or pursuit of a career.
To establish, administer and maintain benevolent funds.

Note that the Vice President normally becomes President in April each year.

There are branches in Doncaster and Sheffield. There is a Mass for the deaf in the Cathedral Houlden Hall on the third Sunday at 6.30pm. (except August). The Doncaster group celebrates Mass monthly as announced. There is a pilgrimage to Walsingham in May and to Padley in July, a retreat and other social events. Visitors are always welcome. The committee meets at 5.30pm before the monthly Mass.
 

CATHOLIC MEN'S SOCIETY

The Catholic Men's Society is the oldest Sodality in Great Britain. The object of the Society is the formation of its members spiritually, so that each may better fulfil his Christian vocation within the parish and the world. This aim is to be achieved through regular meetings and four special works or 'promotions': The Mass, Retreats, Planned Study and Community Service.

FAITH AND LIGHT

Faith and Light is an international Christian organisation with communities in over 70 countries, which enables people with special needs. especially those with learning disabilities and their families and friends, to meet regularly; not as 'helpers' and 'helped' but as people who want to share each others lives. Each month, we meet together to celebrate our faith, either with Mass or with prayer and song, and then we have tea and other activities such as dancing or games. We would like to be in touch with every family in the diocese which has a member with learning disabilities, whether that member is living at home, in a hostel or group home, or in hospital.

MARRIAGE CARE HALLAM

 

Marriage Care Hallam is one of 65 Catholic Marriage Care Centres throughout England and Wales.  Our accredited professional counsellors work without payment, offering marital and relationship counselling to any adult within the community.  We ask clients to make a voluntary donation towards costs, but our service can be free.  We also co-operate with the Diocese by contributing locally to marriage preparation and relationship education.

PADLEY HOUSING ASSOCIATION

Padley Housing Association was formed in 1968. In its early years its aims was to provide young people with help to purchase accommodation. More recently Padley provides accommodation for couples and individuals in housing need, over the age of 60 years, at fair rents. Padley has various flats and houses in the Sheffield area. Since Padley took over the running of St Anne's House, Severn Road in 1988 formerly owned by the CWL (Sheffield Housing Association) it has recently been completely refurbished into 10 self contained units. There is no longer a warden.

The Society of St Vincent De Paul (SVP) is an international Christian society. Catholic in character and origin, whose mission is to bear witness to Christ's love and to put his teaching into practice. Shops sell goods as new clothes and bric a brac and act as a point of contact for those in need.  They also raise money for the special work of the society.  Volunteers are always needed for all the above shops.  If you feel that you could help with this very important work, please contact your nearest shop.
 

THE THIRD ORDER SECULAR OF OUR LADY OF MOUNT CARMEL

Sheffield Chapter meets 2nd Saturday of each month at the Mother of God Church, Abbeydale Road, Sheffield. Time 2.30pm.
