SPIRITUALITY

“The prayer of faith consists not in saying ‘Lord, Lord,’
but in disposing the heart to do the will of the Father.”

Catechism of the Catholic Church, 2611

The department offers a range of events centred around the development of spirituality in the lives of individuals and groups.

A contemplative prayer group meets on the first Saturday of every month at the centre, 1-2.30pm.  It begins with a shared lunch and includes at least 30 minutes of silent prayer.  A day of contemplative prayer will be held at the Bamford Centre on Sunday, 23rd April.  If you are interested in this form of prayer, you are more than welcome.  Phone the office if you would like more details of the day and also about the group.

Evenings of reflection are usually held in Lent and Advent.  Details of these will be posted on our notice board.  They usually take the form of two talks with time for private reflection.  In Lent there is usually a day of reflection.  This year it will take place at the Hallam Pastoral Centre on March 18th.  The day, entitled “A Present from the Father”, will be led by Fr John Walsh and will conclude with a celebration of the Eucharist.  Please bring a packed lunch, tea and coffee provided.  The day begins at 10am and ends at 4pm.  Cost £5 (£3 unwaged).  If you would like to book please telephone 0114 2566410 or e-mail us.  A booking form is also available for those who prefer to book this way at the bottom of this page.

Accompanied prayer – the diocese has a number of trained prayer companions who are available to accompany others on their faith journey.  They are also available to run accompanied prayer events in parishes.  In Sheffield this part of the work runs alongside Inspir, the ecumenical spirituality group.

Retreats – Creative Arts Retreat Movement offers short retreats all over the country throughout the spring and summer.  If you are interested in this type of activity, have a look at their website (see Web Links).
