WORLD YOUTH DAY 2008 – SYDNEY. AUSTRALIA
THE COUNTDOWN STARTS NOW!
“And now, as the living presence of the risen Christ in our midst nourishes our faith and hope, I am pleased to announce that the next World Youth Day will take place in Sydney, Australia in 2008. We entrust to the maternal guidance of Mary, most holy, the future course of the young people of the whole world. Angelus Domini….” Pope Benedict XVI Cologne 2005.
This was the message received by approx’ 1 million young Catholics at Marienfield, the site of World Youth Day 2005.
The proposed date, awaiting confirmation from the Vatican, is 15th – 20th July 2008. However, for us as a Diocese, a key part of the WYD experience is the ‘Parish experience’ which means our time in Australia will be longer than 5 days!
WYD provides a life changing experience for young people from all around the world to come together to celebrate their Catholic faith, and to receive friendship, catechesis and exposure to different cultures.
So if you are or will be over 18 years old by May 2008 then please start thinking seriously about taking part.
Suggestions and information are already starting to come in from CYS (Catholic Youth Service) who intend to negotiate travel arrangements on a national level. So…if you would like to join the organising team that will make this happen for Hallam then please contact me at jshimmell@hallam-diocese.com
Although the details have not yet been finalised, the time to begin preparing, especially raising funds to pay for your ticket, is NOW!
Keep your eye on this page of the web site … as information comes in I will pass it on to you.
