PARISH YOUTH SUNDAY
Following on from our school
mission a sixth student had an idea to host a youth mass in her own parish.
After a number of conversations with staff and pupils this idea grew and
really developed. Eventually a core group of sixth form students came
together and with staff and diocesan support, they planned and organized two
youth masses (in our feeder parishes, of Our Lady of the Assumption,
Stainforth and St. Mary's, Edlington) over the weekend of Youth Sunday.
The Parish Priests were
contacted, as the students wanted to take responsibility for everything
related to the mass, from welcoming parishioners as they enter the church to
serving refreshments at the end of Mass. Visits were made to the respective
feeder Primary Schools. Holy Family, Stainforth and St. Mary's
Edlington. Students from both Primary Schools were invited to join the
McAuley students to take part in their respective parish Masses. Practices
for readers / drama / liturgical dance etc were held during the Saturday
morning at Edlington and Saturday afternoon at Stainforth. There was a real
buzz around both parishes during the preparation. You could really feel the
presence of the Holy Spirit. The students worked extremely hard
and thoroughly enjoyed themselves praising God.
A selection of photographs are attached from St.
Mary's Parish in Edlington. Unfortunately we have no photos of the Mass at
Stainforth.
